It's Time to Prioritise Your Happiness at Work. Is a Career Change required?

Prioritising Your Happiness at Work Isn't Selfish — It's Essential
Are you tired of feeling stuck in a job that drains you? Do you yearn for more meaning and fulfilment in your career?
If so, you're invited to join the club, with way more members than you could ever imagine.
I want to talk about something that doesn't get enough air-time: prioritising your happiness at work, and actually taking action on it — not just thinking about it for another six months.
The Time You're Actually Spending on This
You'll spend around 90,000 hours of your life at work. That's roughly a third of your life. With that much time on the table, shouldn't it count for something?
Wanting more happiness and fulfilment from your career isn't selfish. It's not indulgent. It's essential to your overall wellbeing — full stop.
Why Does Investing in Yourself Feel Like a Guilty Pleasure?
Here's something I hear constantly from clients, and something I've felt myself: investing in your own career and development can feel indulgent, almost self-indulgent to even consider. Many of us — women and parents especially — carry a quiet guilt around self-investment, like wanting more for ourselves is somehow greedy.
It isn't. You're allowed to prioritise your own happiness and fulfilment. It's worth believing that, not just nodding along to it.
What's Holding You Back?
If you're yearning for change, it's worth getting honest about what's stopping you. Is it fear of the unknown? Hesitation to invest in yourself?
One thing I know for sure, staying indecisive isn't neutral. It's still a choice — it's choosing the status quo, by default, every single day you don't act.
You're Worth the Investment
Your happiness and fulfilment matter. It's okay to step outside your comfort zone and pursue work that aligns with your values and what you're good at. Don't let fear be the thing that quietly decides your next ten years for you.
Don't Let It Drag On Like Mine Did
I'm not writing this from a distance. My own career change took the better part of a decade — dragged out by fear, self-doubt, and a fair amount of indecision I could have skipped if I'd known then what I know now.
You don't have to take a decade. But you do have to start.
What's Your Next Move?
You're one decision away from a genuinely different work life. Not a perfect one overnight — just different, and moving in the right direction.
If you want t akick-start to make this happen, my Career Crossroads Workshop (and recording) are designed for this exact moment.
Trust yourself. Prioritise what actually matters to you. And start the process of working out what you're built for, rather than staying in a role that quietly drains you.
I'm here to support you — all the way.
